    Our 2023 Dorm Room recipient Damarion King is a graduate of Enloe GT/IB Magnet High School in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is first-generation college student attending Morehouse College located in Atlanta, GA. He is a majoring in Political Science with aspirations to become a political broadcast journalist.

    Damarion favorite component of his room is the “Blackboy Joy” sign. “It really defines me. I am a joyful person and love to spread joy around the world. Happiness is situational and it requires a good thing to happen. However, joy is this everlasting spirit that stays within you regardless of the circumstances and situations of your life.

    Our 2023 Dorm Room recipient Trinity Patterson graduated from Invest Collegiate Transform School. She is a first-generation college student attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in Chapel Hill, NC. She double majors in Psychology and Business.

    Trinity wanted her room to display boho vibes! The vibes she wanted to get when you walk into your favorite store. “My favorite part of the dorm is my bed!”….5 minutes later…. “Wait, I think the desk is my favorite! It gives me a comfortable spot to chill while also giving a touch of home. The just vibe lightbox sign keeps me leveled through all the challenges that comes with being a first year student in a new place.”

  • 2023: Davidson College

    Our 2023 Dorm Room recipient is Samatha Torres-Rosado is a graduate of South Mecklenburg High School. She is a first-generation college student attending Davidson College. She is majoring in Pre-Med.

    Samantha wanted a cozy and personalized dorm room space where she can feel comfortable and motivated throughout the semester. The customized neon sign that reads “Si Se Puede” which means Yes it can be done —displayed, serving as a constant source of motivation to finish the semester strong!

  • 2022: Johnston C. Smith University

    Our 2023 Dorm Makeover recipient Craig Purvis graduated from Rocky River High School. He is a first-generation college student attending Johnson C. Smith University located in Charlotte, NC. He majors in Sports Management.


    Craig wanted to feel ALIVE in his dorm room and his life motto is “No mater, What”!

    Our 2022 Dorm Makeover recipient Destiny Jackson graduated from Belmont Charter High School. She is a first-generation college student attending Spelman College in Atlanta, GA. She majors in Political Science and Communications.

    Being in and out of foster care for years. She wanted her dorm room be safe space for her. Along with being comfortably, bright, yet aesthetically pleasing for her YouTube audience as well.

    Our 2020 Dorm Room Makeover recipient Zoe Brown graduated from Olympic High School. She is a first-generation college student attending Winston-Salem State University. She majors in Education with a minor in Spanish.

    Zoe wanted her room to be colorful and vibrant. She wanted to display some of her favorites like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Keith Haring, and James Baldwin.

    Our 2019 Dorm Room Makeover recipient Aimee Mobati graduated from Garinger High School. She is a first-generation college student attending North Carolina A&T University in Greensboro, NC and majors in Information Technology.

    She wanted her dorm room to exude “Black Excellence”. Also, she wanted to display motivation quotes and her Congolese roots.
